Why Convert PNG to JPG?
PNG is a lossless format —great for quality, but files can be 3–10x larger than JPG equivalents. Here's when conversion makes sense:
- File size matters —A 12 MB PNG screenshot might become a 1.5 MB JPG. That's a huge difference for emails and uploads.
- No transparency needed —If your image doesn't need a transparent background, JPG is more efficient.
- Web publishing —JPG images load faster on web pages, improving user experience and SEO.
- Social media —Most social platforms convert to JPG anyway. Converting first gives you control over quality.
- Bulk sharing —When sharing dozens of photos, JPG keeps the total size manageable.
How to Convert
- Open PNG to JPG tool
- Upload your PNG image
- Adjust quality if needed (default is optimized for best balance)
- Download your compact JPG
Note: Transparent areas in PNG will become white in the JPG output, since JPG doesn't support transparency.
Quality vs File Size
JPG uses lossy compression. At quality 90%, the difference from the original is virtually invisible. At 75%, files are much smaller with only subtle quality differences visible at extreme zoom. For most uses, 80–85% is the sweet spot.
When to Keep PNG
- Images with transparency (logos, icons, overlays)
- Images you plan to edit repeatedly
- Screenshots with sharp text (JPG can blur text edges)
- Archival copies where lossless quality is required
