1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using ToolKnit (toolknit.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
2. Description of Service
ToolKnit provides a collection of free browser-based tools across PDF, image, video, audio, text, calculator, time, creative, AI, and self-test categories. All file and data processing is performed entirely in your browser using technologies such as WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm), PDF.js, the Canvas API, and the Web Audio API. Your files are never uploaded to our servers.
3. No Account Required
ToolKnit does not require registration, login, or any form of account creation. All tools are available immediately without providing personal information. There is no paid tier — every feature is free for all users.
4. Usage Limits
Each user receives 500 free tool uses per day. Usage is tracked locally in your browser via localStorage and is never sent to our servers. The daily count resets at midnight (local time). Clearing your browser data will also reset the count.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
- Attempt to bypass usage limits through automated means or scripts
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its underlying infrastructure
- Except as permitted by applicable law or an applicable third-party open-source license, attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract ToolKnit's proprietary source code
- Copy, reproduce, distribute, repackage, or present ToolKnit's name, logo, original website design, original content, or proprietary code as your own product or service without prior written permission
- Scrape, crawl, or index the site in a way that degrades performance for other users
6. Intellectual Property
The ToolKnit name, logo, original website design, original content, and original code authored by ToolKnit are our intellectual property. Except where an applicable third-party open-source license says otherwise, these Terms grant no permission to use those materials in a product, extension, service, or distribution that appears affiliated with ToolKnit. Third-party and open-source components remain owned by their respective copyright holders and are licensed separately. You retain full ownership of all files you process using our tools. We claim no rights over your content.
7. Official Product Channels
The ToolKnit web app is officially available only at toolknit.com. ToolKnit Desktop is officially distributed only through github.com/ZihangDong/toolknit-desktop and is licensed separately under Apache 2.0. We do not operate or authorize browser extensions, extension-store or app-store listings, mirror sites, re-uploads, or other product distribution channels. Any product, listing, or download outside these channels is not an official ToolKnit product.
8. Offline Access
ToolKnit uses a service worker to cache assets for offline use. After your first visit, many tools remain accessible without an internet connection. This caching is automatic and does not require any action from you.
9. Third-Party Libraries
Our tools rely on open-source and third-party libraries (including but not limited to FFmpeg.wasm, PDF.js, pdf-lib, JSZip, jsPDF, @imgly/background-removal, and Google Fonts). These libraries are loaded from CDNs or bundled locally and are governed by their respective licenses. These Terms do not limit rights granted under an applicable third-party open-source license. If these Terms conflict with such a license, that license controls solely with respect to the relevant component. Source, license, and attribution information is provided with the relevant tool or bundled component. We are not responsible for bugs or limitations in third-party code.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
ToolKnit is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that processing results will meet your specific requirements. Use the tools at your own discretion.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ToolKnit and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, our services — including but not limited to data loss, corrupted files, or missed deadlines.
12. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Changes to these Terms do not alter rights granted under an applicable third-party license.
