Pro Tips

  • When the browser asks for permission, click Allow — without it the test cannot run.
  • If a device is in use by another app (Zoom, Teams), close that app first, then retry.
  • Speak normally — if the volume bar moves, your microphone is picking up sound.
  • Use the dropdown to switch between front/rear cameras or external microphones.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I test my microphone?

Click Start Microphone and allow access when the browser asks. Speak normally and watch the live volume meter move. If the bar reacts to your voice, your mic is working. Pick a different microphone from the dropdown if you have more than one.

How do I test my webcam or camera?

Click Start Camera and allow access. A live preview of your webcam appears, along with the detected resolution. If you see yourself, your camera works. Switch between front, back or external cameras using the dropdown.

Why does it ask for permission?

Browsers require your explicit permission before any site can access your microphone or camera. Click Allow in the prompt. You can revoke access any time from your browser's site settings.

Is anything recorded or uploaded?

No. The audio and video streams are only used live in your browser to show the meter and preview. Nothing is recorded, saved, or sent to any server. Closing the page ends the test immediately.

Why are no devices found or working?

Make sure your mic or camera is connected and not in use by another app (like Zoom). Check that the browser has permission and that you are on a secure (https) page. Some devices need you to select them from the dropdown.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The test works in mobile browsers too. On phones you can switch between the front and rear cameras, and the volume meter works with the built-in microphone.
